WHAT OUR PATIENTS SAY ABOUT US

"I can’t say enough great things about the entire staff at Fishers Pediatric Dentisty! Going to the dentist was always a scary thing for me when I was a kid. Not only is the entire office bright and cheery so is the staff!  They were excellent at not only making sure it wasn’t traumatic for our son, but they also made sure to keep Mom and Dad from losing it too!"

Why do children grind their teeth?

Posted by: Courtney Anderson on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 3:42:03 pm

No one knows exactly why children develop the tendency to grind; however grinding is very common and often nothing to worry about.  There are a few possible factors that cause a child to develop this habit.  Most commonly, children who may experience pressure (from tooth eruption/exfoliation or even a simple earache) may also grind to relieve the pain and pressure.  Teeth may not be aligned properly causing a child to grind.  It may also be due to stress or tension.

WHAT ARE OUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EARLY DENTAL HEALTH?

WHAT ARE OUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EARLY DENTAL HEALTH?

Children, on average, will begin to get their first teeth in at age 6 months.  The first teeth to come in are usually the bottom two in front.  Teeth will continue to come in well past their second birthday. There are twenty baby teeth.  While your child is teething they may be fussy or have excessive drool.  They also will want to chew on toys, fingers, toes, whatever they can get their hands on!  Occasionally, children may develop low-grade fevers while they are teething.
I recommend for parents to establish an oral care routine for their child as soon as the first tooth appears.  Twice a day clean your child’s teeth to wipe away dental plaque and to dislodge any food that may be present.  As the child is first getting their teeth it may be appropriate to first use a washcloth to wipe the teeth with.  As more of the tooth is visible you may graduate to an appropriately sized soft bristled toothbrush.  At this time you may consider using a 'smear' of fluoridated toothpaste.  Wipe your child’s mouth out after nighttime feedings.  Also, please never put your child to bed with a bottle or a sippy cup that is filled with anything other than water.  This may lead to severe dental decay on the child’s teeth resulting from the pooling of the liquid on the teeth as the child sleeps.
The American Academy of Pediatrics as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry encourages parents to establish a dental home for their child by the age of 12 months.  This not only gives the parent a place for comprehensive care of their child’s teeth and for treatment of dental emergencies but it also encourages the formation of a relationship between the parent, child, and dentist.  The child’s first visit may be at a general dentist’s office or at a pediatric dental office with practitioners that have completed specialized training in the treatment of children.

Construction around our area beginning September 6, 2011

Posted by: Courtney Anderson on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 5:17:25 pm

Construction on the westbound right turn lane on 116th Street between the ramp off of I-69 to Commercial Drive will begin shortly. E&B Paving will be placing Road Construction Ahead signs starting next Wednesday, August 24th. The contractor will begin work on Sept. 6th. During the relocation of the signal poles and equipment and the construction of the right-turn lane on 116th Street, there will be lane restrictions on 116th Street and Commercial Drive. These lane restrictions will not take place during am or pm rush hours but will be in place during the remainder of the day. This construction is scheduled to last through the end of October. Expect to experience delays at this intersection during this construction and we ask that people take an alternate route during this construction.
