WHAT OUR PATIENTS SAY ABOUT US

"Wow! What a wonderful first experience I had with my two sons today at FPD! I have put off bringing my kids, for fear of how they would react. We walked into a beautiful, fun environment that instantly put my kids at ease. Every single person we interacted with was fantastic and they had us in and out in 20 minutes! Thank you so much for such a great experience!"

Varnish Fluoride Treatments

Published Thursday, September 23, 2010

We are now providing Varnish fluoride treatments at Fishers Pediatric Dentistry! After following years of research we are happy to provide to our patients the highest quality fluoride treatment available.

Fluoride varnish is not something new. It has been around for over 30 years. It is a topically applied "paint" that contains a high concentration of fluoride. In recent year the efficacy of the varnish has been proven in preventing decay and sensitivity. In fact, in a clinical research report written by Weintraub et al published in The Journal of Dental Research up to 92% reduction in decay was reported after applications of fluoride varnish. The IU School of Dentistry and insurance companies also support varnish as the highest quality fluoride treatment that can be provided to our patients.

The applications process is much faster and easier than the old gel and tray method. We brush a very small amount on the teeth with a tiny paint brush. The patient can then eat and drink immediately afterwards. The high concentration of fluoride will then be absorbed over the next 6-8 hours. Since it is such a small amount applied and it is so quick to apply we have seen a decrease in nausea and gagging in our patients.

The fluoride varnish is safe for all ages and patients. We also carry a gluten free formula for our gluten allergic patients.

There is one restriction we forgot to mention, you can't brush for 6-8 hours after application! Maybe this is the reason our patients love it!
