BPA Update
Dear Parents and Guardians,

As growing concern emerges about chemicals and products that we come into contact with on a daily basis, we at Fishers Pediatric Dentistry want to provide you with the latest information about products used in our dental office. As parents ourselves, we understand that you seek to provide the safest treatment for your children. For that reason we would like to provide you with information about a recent concern: Bisphenol A and its use in dental sealants and resin fillings.

Bisphenol A is a chemical used when making common household plastic items such as baby bottles, water bottles, plastic wraps, and bags. It is found in DVD players, CD's, metal cans, and even automobile parts. Recently media coverage by CNN mentioned that Bisphenol A is present in dental sealants and resin filling materials.

The Food and Drug Administration has the following information on their website, fda.gov, "On the basis of results from recent studies using novel approaches to test for subtle effects, both the National Toxicology Program at the National Institutes of Health and FDA have some concern about the potential effects of BPA on the brain, behavior, and prostate gland in fetuses, infants, and young children. In cooperation with the National Toxicology Program, FDA's National Center for Toxicological Research is carrying out in-depth studies to answer key questions and clarify uncertainties about the risks of BPA."

To avoid any risks to our patients, Fishers Pediatric Dentistry currently uses products that do not use the ingredient Bisphenol A. Our sealant material is listed on the ADA's list of materials that do not contain Bisphenol A. Our resin materials used for white fillings do not have Bisphenol A as an ingredient. All of the products' Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) are available for you at your request. Please express your concern to our staff and we will be happy to help you.

According to the Center of Disease Control, dental caries is the most common chronic disease that affects children 5-17 years old. Our goal is to prevent this disease and its negative consequences from affecting the children that come to our office. It is our promise to you to always use the safest products on the market to achieve this goal. Thank you for your continued trust and confidence to treat your children.

Sincerely,

Fishers Pediatric Dentistry
